On the first
and third Wednesday of each
month, the VFSS hosts regular musical evenings that may include
songcircles,
open stages, and feature concerts.
Songcircles
are casual,
supportive occasions to share songs. As the circle progresses, each
person in turn is given the opportunity to lead a song of their choice
or pass. There is no pressure to perform or to perform perfectly.
Songcircles may be open or have a suggested theme.
At an themed songcircle, participants are encouraged to bring songs relating
to the evening's topic. Past themes have ranged from "animals" to "the Seven
Deadly Sins & Seven Holy Virtues." For a list of some of our past and
upcoming themes, visit the Songcircle Themes page.
Open stages allow
singers and musicians to present one or two songs in a slightly more
formal atmosphere. Open-stage performers sign up at the beginning of
the evening for a spot on the slate.
Feature concerts
spotlight the talents of one performer or group. Featured performers
are chosen from VFSS members and from the local musical community.
If you are interested in appearing as a feature, please read our feature guidelines.
Musical evenings are held in the
Friends
Meeting Hall at 1090 W. 70th in Vancouver, starting at 7:30 pm.
Admission is free for members, with a donation requested from
nonmembers.
The VFSS also holds a yearly weekend retreat
in
the early winter. For more information, go to our Retreats
page.
